Virtual Applications
Long ago Citrix provided a means to access applications running on a server remotely,
similar to the way X did in the Unix world. Microsoft now has a pretty powerful arsenol of tools
with Windows Server 2008 R2 called Remote Desktop Services. Not only can you access a full
virtual desktop that is running on a server remotely, but you can access individual applications
running on various servers from your Windows desktop making it seamless to run your local
applications side-by-side with your remote applications.
We will have a video showing how this works, but Microsoft has a video on YouTube that shows how it works on Windows Server 2008 R1. Scroll to around the 6 minute mark if you want to skip past the setup instructions. Genesis can provision this environment for you, manage the server infrastructure in our high-availability clusters, and handle the licensing.
